About Blitzball
Blitzball is a baseball like game that is designed to be more accessible than regular baseball.
It is played with plastic bats and patented plastic Blitzballs, which means it does not require the amount of protective equipment or space needed for baseball.
It uses a physical strike zone, negating the need for an umpire to call strikes.
Most varieties also exclude the need for baserunning. Your hits are based on where you hit the ball rather than how quickly you can race to first base or beyond.
All of this results in a game that has the satisfaction of hitting bombs and striking out your opponents without the need for expensive equipment and peak physicality.
Rules
Blitzball follows essentially the same rule set as baseball, with a few tweaks or exceptions.
- Total bases are awarded based on where the ball is hit.
- A ball hit into fair territory beyond the single line is a single.
- A ball hit into fair territory beyond the home run boundary having first bounced is a double (similar to a ground rule double).
- A ball hit into fair territory beyond the home run boundary on the fly is a home run.
- A ball fielded cleanly in fair territory before it stops moving is an out.
- A ball hit into fair territory that does not pass the single line (either through lack of travel distance or fielding) is a foul ball.
- A ball caught anywhere is an out.
PTown Blitzball also use a few house rules specific to their playgroup.
- 2 innings per game.
- 5 balls to a walk.
- A batter must swing at at least one pitch each at bat.
- Similar to the boundary in cricket, the fielding team can prevent singles and doubles by stopping the ball from moving past the respective line.
